Audemars Piguet and Swatch Confirm "Royal Pop" Watch Collaboration

The most anticipated watch collaboration of 2026 is now official. Audemars Piguet and Swatch have confirmed "Royal Pop," a partnership that marks the first time the iconic Royal Oak silhouette has been licensed outside Le Brassus in its 54-year history.

After a week of teaser ads in major newspapers and cryptic Instagram posts, Swatch made it official on May 8 with a direct co-branded post.

The product name is Royal Pop, registered as a trademark by Swatch AG in class 14 (jewellery and watches) on 8 March 2024. MGB WATCHES


What Is the Royal Pop

"Pop" refers to a Swatch product line first launched in 1986. The original Pop watches were 47mm pieces with detachable dials that could be clipped onto clothing or keychains, part timepiece and part wearable accessory. The line was revived in a smaller format in 2022 and now serves as the design blueprint for the AP collaboration.

What is taking shape is a Bioceramic pocket watch worn on a lanyard. The leaked colors include white, pink, green, orange, yellow, red, light blue, and navy. Eight variants that read more like a streetwear drop than anything from Le Brassus.

The case design draws directly from the Royal Oak, the octagonal watch first sketched by Gérald Genta in 1972.


Launch Date and Locations

Launch: Saturday, May 16, 2026, global synchronized in-store release. Distribution: in-store only at participating Swatch boutiques. No online sale at launch. 21 US boutiques across 20 cities, 13 UK locations, plus AU, FR, DE, CH, HK, SG, UAE, and Japan. Watches Off 5th

Why This Collaboration Is Historic

Audemars Piguet has never licensed the Royal Oak silhouette to anyone. Not to Travis Scott, not to Marvel, not to any of the long list of partners AP has worked with over the past two decades. Those projects all stayed inside AP's own factory walls, made on AP machinery, sold at AP prices. On May 16, 2026, that changes.

Mixed Reviews Across the Watch Community

The announcement has split opinion online. Some collectors are calling it a betrayal of Audemars Piguet's core audience, arguing that the brand built its entire identity on exclusivity and that opening the Royal Oak design language to Swatch shoppers risks diluting that equity. Others are openly excited at finally being able to wear something with Royal Oak DNA without the six-figure price tag.



The deeper question is whether Audemars Piguet is intentionally repositioning to attract a younger and broader client base, or whether this is a calculated one-time experiment.
